Fishing in Falmouth Antigua makes for perfect bone fishing !
Lured to sport fishing? Jamaica hooks more than your attention. Deep and productive waters only 15 minutes from shore, well-equipped sport fishing boats and scenic views add up to a quality fishing experience in Jamaica. And guess what? you catch fish, too. Visiting anglers have a chance at landing blue and white marlin, wahoo, tuna and dolphin in deep water and drops to thousands of feet beyond the reefs. Blue marlin is the most-prized big game fish. Catching your first marlin is well within reach. Fishing grounds encircle the island and larger blues are usually caught between summer and fall. Although they diminish in size, blues are present year-round. Jamaica hosts several annual blue marlin tournaments, attracting world-wide anglers. The Port Antonio International Billfish Tournament, usually held in October, is one of the most celebrated and prestigious in the Caribbean. Each year this event attracts up to 50 boats, including anglers from the U.S.A. and neighboring Caribbean islands. Other tournaments are held in Montego Bay, Falmouth, Discovery Bay and Treasure Beach. Excellent charter boats can be booked. When chartering a fishing boat, discuss specifics with the captain, as times and rates vary. Reserve a charter at least 24 hours in advance. You must supply food and drinks; boats may supply ice. Remember that you may be more prone to dehydration in a tropical climate, so drink plenty of fluids like a bottle of Catherine Peak or Cool Runnings Spring Water. Most boats expect a 50 percent deposit. If you decide to cancel, do so at least 24 hours in advance or you may lose your deposit. Book your trip with the captain or crew members, not with bystanders on the dock.
